Most mailboxes are made of powder coated aluminum, galvanized steel, cast iron, copper or metal. When made with these materials, mailboxes are weather proof. Many novelty mailboxes are also made of weather treated wood, although these won't be as durable. Mailboxes usually cost between $30 and $40 online. They make great house-warming, birthday or Christmas gifts.
